Kochi
(formerly Cochin) is a cosmopolitan city in Kerala
with a bustling commercial port. Kochi is the financial capital of Kerala
and, with a population of more than 2 million, the biggest urban
agglomeration in the state.
Munnar is a
hill station of Kerala.Most tourists come to Munnar to see the surrounding
tea plantations. The town itself is typically Indian with the usual shops
and guest houses and is nothing special in itself. But it is a good place
to stay to see the surrounding countryside. It is also a popular place for
Indian honeymooners. The town is divided into two parts, Old Munnar, where
the tourist information office is, and Munnar, where the bus station and
most guest houses are located. Munnar was a summer resort of the British
government in South India. It is 1600 m (5400 ft) above sea level. It is
pronounced "Moon-aar" meaning "Three rivers" in Malayalam. There are in
fact three rivers - Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru which flow
through this town, but join some distance away from Munnar. The
neelakurinji, a blue flower which blooms only every twelve years, is found
in this region. It bloomed last in December 2006. Munnar also has the
highest peak in South India, Anamudi, at 2695 m.Altitude : 1600 Mts to

Thekkady is
enchanting as the road winds through tranquill countryside, rich
plantations & thick jungles. The sanctuary, 60 km from Idukki, 190 km from
Cochin and 114 km away from Kottayam is open throughout the year, but the
best season for a visit is from September to March. The sanctuary is
centered around the large (24 sq km) artificial lake formed by a dam
across the Periyar river. It is one of the famous holiday destinations in
India.Kumily is 4 km away from Thekkady. Madurai to Kumily is around 120
km (approx 4 hours in state transport bus which are available at Madurai
). One can stay at Kumily as it offers good hotels, shopping market &
restaurants.
Kumarakom is
a tourist village in Kerala in India. It is a cluster of small islands on
the Vembanad backwaters. It houses the popular Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary.
Alappuzha
also known as Alleppey, is in Kerala. This district headquarters is also
known as Alappuzha and is located 70 kilometres south of Cochin. It is
often called the Venice of the East due to the canals that connect it to
Kerala's famous snaking backwaters.

Kovalam is
famous for its beaches, among the most pristine in India. It is about 17
km from Thiruvananthapuram city, the capital of the southern state of
Kerala in India. Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of
Travancore.The European guests of the then Travancore kingdom discovered
the potentiality of Kovalam beach as a tourist destination in the 1930s.
However, Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals
of the masses of hippies. That started the transformation of a casual
fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist
destinations in all India- the Kovalam beach. It is a beautiful place in

Wayanad is in
the north-east of Kerala, India, was formed on November 1, 1980 as the
12th district by carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur districts.
Kalpetta is the district headquarters as well as the only municipal town
in the district. The region was known as Mayakshetra (Maya's land) in the
earliest records. Mayakshetra evolved into Mayanad and finally to Wayanad.
The Folk etymology of the word says it is a combination of Vayal (paddy)
and Naad (land), making it 'The Land of Paddy Fields'. There are many
indigenous tribals in this area. It is set high on the majestic Western
Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 m.
